Etnofonías
Los Sonidos de México
Etnofonías is Los Lupeños’ new folklórico concert, the creation of Artistic Director Samuel Cortez who has blended his dance works with those of guest artists. In his own words "Etnofonias is a tribute to Mexican culture of yesterday and today, connected by sounds that evoke our celebrations and our traditions, with music that sounds unfamiliar yet intimately familiar".
This new program features the premiere of Alta California, a humble tribute to the traditions preserved by generations of Californians, a perspective on the live tradition of the fandango in the state of Veracruz, a set of intricate dances from the Apatzingán Valley in Michoacán and the premiere of treasured choreographies Alfredo Luna (Veracruz) and Rafael Borbolla (Sinaloa). Accompanying Los Lupeños and Los Lupeños Juvenil are the talented musicians of Ensemble Folklórico de Veracruz.
Los Lupeños de San José and Los Lupeños Juvenil are part of the nonprofit arts organization Cashion Cultural Legacy, founded by Susan V. Cashion PhD, whose mission is to sustain the preservation, presentation, and education of Mexican folk culture through dance. In addition to our dance companies, the Cashion Cultural Legacy offers public dance classes through Los Lupeños Academy, runs artist exchanges between California and México, and has a nascent publications project including the 2nd Edition of “Three Pioneers of Mexican Dance in California” available on Amazon and AmazonSmile in both paperback and e-book versions.
Covid-19 cases tend to surge in the fall so we strongly suggest wearing a mask when inside the theater.
